Emergent LayerThe Emergent Layer has trees that can be anywhere from 100-200 feet tall. It is home to eagles, monkeys, bats, and butterflies, among other animals. It is the driest layer of the rainforest.
CanopyThe canopy is made up of tall trees which group together to form a sort of roof, or canopy, over the remaining two layers. Stranglers are common plants of the layer. Many animals live here, as food is so abundant.
UnderstoryThe understory consists of immature trees waiting for a chance to reach sunlight. Most trees are barely 12 feet tall and have small, thin trunks and broad leaves.. Jaguars and leopards live here.
Forest FloorVery little sunlight reaches the forest floor. There is not much plant life here. Mosses and parasitic plants are adapted to the darkness of this layer. The area is humid, and things decay quickly.
